Thessalonique – Istanbul
Two major influences in this piece: Macedonian music and Turkish music. The first part is an original composition (7/4), alternating between tender, lyrical moments, soft and caressing, and lively, virtuoso dancing. The second part, Istanbul, is largely inspired by a Turkish theme: Hicazkar Oyun Havasi. It is full of virtuosity and its mode (Maqam), typical of Turkish music, is conducive to improvisation. The piece ends as it began, in Thessaloniki.
