By composing this Rhapsodie for the Sax N’ DOLE international competition, I tried to find the best possible balance between the demands of such a commission and music that would be accessible to a large audience. So, while using the instrument’s high register and omnipresent virtuosity, opening up the possibilities of playing with slap techniques, bisbigliando or improvisation… I never stopped thinking about the musical dimension. The rhapsodic nature of the piece allowed me to approach the lyrical and expressive aspect of the saxophone, its range of nuances and colours as well as its ability to impress us and make us dance.
